After 10 years of construction, the EDF dam at Bort les Orgues was commissioned in 1952. 120 m high, it is the first and largest dam on the Dordogne.
The reservoir of the dam at Bort les Orgues is one of the largest in France; extending over 20 km and 3 departments : Corrèze,Cantal and Puy de Dôme. Its main function is electricity production but it also plays a role as a regulator of the Dordogne. The creation of the lake has enabled tourism and recreation to develop in the area. Located near the hydroelectric dam, the Espace EDF is a fun and interactive learning place. A guide will show you the different ways to produce electricity and how the dam operates. The Espace EDF also raises awareness of energy conservation and protection of fauna and flora.
