Chastang Dam and its Espace EDF

Chastang dam is 79 metres high and is part of a new generation of dams, built postwar. Chastang’s three alternators can provide energy for the equivalent of a town of 100 000 inhabitants. A tour guide explains how hydroelectricity works by taking visitors to the heart of EDF’s Chastang hydraulic plant. Free tours of the plant on Fridays, all year long (booking required).
EDF’s brand Chastang centre : this new EDF information centre is located at the foot of the hydroelectric dam and introduces visitors to the area’s industrial heritage. The centre completes the guided tours of the plant, with a fun and informative tour that explains all about hydraulic energy production, the people who work here and how hydraulic power is a sustainable source of energy.
