« Quatre demoiselles dans un couvent qui ne voient ni pluie ni vent… Qui sont-elles ? Les quatre parties du cerneau de la noix » (Literally : « Four young ladies in a convent, who never see rain nor wind… Who can they be ? The four parts of a walnut. »). The Saillac walnut museum’s name is directly inspired by this Limousin riddle. The museum is located opposite a 12th century church in an old (9th to 18th century) Benedictine convent for women. Its equipment is original spectacular and innovative. Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about walnuts! - There is a « bistrot » on the ground floor and 1st floor of the museum. It is a café and gift shop all in one, where you can taste all sorts of treats made with walnuts. - In the lovely room with a vaulted ceiling, « CIAN » holds its annual meeting. Its 13 members explain the wonderful story of walnuts, in a video. The following rooms hold the mysterious CIAN treasure : walnut-related works of art and other objects. What is CIAN ? It stands for « Cercle International des Amis de la Noix » (or « International Circle of Walnut Lovers »). Its headquarters have been located in the museum since it was created in 1956. Be sure to stop over in Saillac and visit the fascinating museum! Tours last about 75 minutes.
