A secret gateway into a world of light and fantasy
This winter, Europe’s most spectacular and grandiose lantern festival comes to Château de Castel Novel, opening the gates to a parallel world where the strange becomes wondrous and imagination comes to life before your eyes.
From December 5, 2025 to February 15, 2026, the Château de Castel Novel in Varetz invites you to experience the Festival of Lanterns, a dazzling and enchanting journey to enjoy with family or friends. Inspired by the world of Alice in Wonderland, this major winter event transforms the château's park into a fairytale wonderland.
An open-air magical show
As night falls, over a thousand glowing sculptures light up an 11-hectare trail, featuring fantastical settings, imaginary creatures, and interactive installations. Giant colorful mushrooms rise from the ground, oversized clocks spin wildly, gigantic playing cards twirl in the air, and strange creatures observe you from hidden corners. Time seems suspended—as if you had fallen down a secret rabbit hole into another world. Handcrafted and draped in 5,000 meters of silk, lit by over a million LEDs, these luminous creations immerse visitors in a dreamlike, magical universe.
A sensory and enchanted experience
Throughout the trail, soundscapes, lights, and animations heighten the magic. Costumed characters, artists, and street performances bring the park to life. A pop-up stage hosts actors and circus artists who perform each evening. A spectacular laser show lights up the sky to end the visit in style.
