Chapelle du Saillant avec vitraux de Marc Chagall

The Saillant chapel is the only one in France to be entirely decorated with stained glass windows by Marc Chagall. Fascinated by the work of this artist, Guy de Lasteyrie du Saillant, a descendant of the builders of the chapel, commissioned this work. The six panels were made between 1978 and 1982 by the glass painters Charles Marq and Brigitte Simon in Reims from models by Chagall, who did the finishing touches, in particular the numerous effects on the grisaille. The stained glass windows evoke the primary values of man in nature. The artist played with light by creating a dialogue between the coloured windows and the windows in grisaille.
