In the heart of the small village of Arnac-Pompadour, in Corrèze, stands the majestic silhouette of the château. Rebuilt in the 15th century by the Hélie family, its origins date back to a medieval castrum founded around the year 1000 by the Lastours family.
In 1745, Louis XV gave this estate to his favourite, Jeanne-Antoinette Lenormant d'Étiolles, the future and famous Marquise de Pompadour.
Despite the ravages of time and a fire in the 19th century, the south wing of the château and the outer walls still stand today. With their pepperpot towers and moats, they bear witness to the imposing fortress that it once was.
But Pompadour is not just a château, it is also the cradle of a unique equestrian heritage. In the mid-18th century, the Marquise began breeding horses, a vocation that was continued by the royal family and then by the State.
